RECENTLY WILLSHIP WAS APPROACHED WITH A REQUEST TO SHIP A TRUCK TO NEW ZEALAND THAT WAS A BIT OUTSIDE THE NORM. ALTHOUGH TRUCKS ARE AMONG THE USUAL TYPES OF CARGO WE TRANSPORT (ALONG WITH CARS, BOATS, MOTORHOMES AND CARAVANS), THIS WASN’T JUST ANY OLD TRUCK BUT IN FACT A SUPER TRUCK.
As any truck racing enthusiast will appreciate, Super Trucks are finely tuned speed demons capable of reaching top speeds of over 200 km’s an hour. This Super Truck in question that we were asked to ship belonged to Daynite Towing in Perth. Daynite Towing is one of the city’s longest running towing service providers and well-known in the sport of Super Truck Racing.
The specs of the Daynite Towing Super Truck are impressive. It is a T909 Kenworth powered by a Caterpillar C13 engine, it has four wheel disk brakes and an Allison 6 speed World Series Transmission. The truck weighs 5.2 tonnes and can achieve mid-12 second quarter mile passes. When racing the truck’s speed is limited by regulations to 160 km’s per hour but has a top speed of 246 km’s per hour. It runs a state of the art Motec System for refined tuning.
Director of Daynite Towing and truck driver Rob Waters approached Willship to transport the Super Truck to New Zealand so as to take part in the 2016 New Zealand Super Truck Championship. This consists of four events held in Timaru and Invercargill in January, Pukekohe in mid-April and Taupo over Anzac Weekend (22 to 24 April). Daynite Towing are the current Trans Tasman Champions along with two other Australian teams but are the only Australian Team competing in the championship this year.
This is Rob’s fourth trip to New Zealand to race the Super Truck and he says they don’t normally race the truck in Australia but they have chosen to participate in the race across the ditch as the competition and commitment of the competitors suit their style. He adds that as they are service providers for Willship, it was an easy choice to utilise our services to ship the truck to and from New Zealand.
“The process has been very easy and Willship has been fantastic in making sure every detail has been taken care of,” says Rob “Daynite Towing prides itself on our service and expertise and it is a pleasure to do business with a company that has similar qualities. Daynite Towing has to have the Super Truck back in Australia in May for a series of corporate functions and events, but Rob is confident in achieving this with Willships expertise.
